Antique Steiger Tractors

Steiger was started by two farming brothers, Douglas and Maurice Steiger, in 1957. They built a high-powered, 238-horsepower, four-wheel drive tractor out of truck parts for their own farming use, then built one for a neighbor in 1958. The tractors were impressing the local farmers, and demand began to grow. In 1963, their tractor line grew to include tractors with horsepower ranging from 118hp to 300hp. By the end of the decade, Steiger was selling their tractors nationwide.

Steiger released the Series III models in 1976. These new models had a newly designed modern cab, as well as a number of new developments. These models extended the existing Steiger horsepower range to 470hp. This range was extended even further in 1983 when they introduced the 525 hp KP-525 and Panther 1000 series.

The deteriorating economy of the 1980s caused Steiger to decrease their production to a quarter of their capacity. Tenneco, the parent company of CaseIH, purchased Steiger in 1986, and the Steiger name is still being used on their tractors today.
